Q: Who can participate in AO Youth Cheer?
A: Any child within the appropriate age range (typically entering K–8th grade) is welcome! You do not need to attend AO schools to join.
Q: What does my child need for the season?
A: Cheerleaders will receive a full uniform, bows, and other team gear. You’ll only need to provide primarily white athletic shoes.
Q: Are uniforms returned at the end of the season?
A: Yes. Uniforms must NOT be altered in any way as they will be returned after football and basketball seasons (if participating). Bows, spandex, and cheer gear are yours to keep!
Q: Is Cheer Camp required?
A: Nope! Camp is optional, but it's a fun way to learn halftime routines and bond with the team. Camp includes a T-shirt and is held in late July.
Q: Can parents stay for practices or camp?
A: For focus and safety, parents may drop off and pick up only. Staying during practices is not allowed. We'll make sure to snap some pictures to share along the way!
Q: Are there accommodations for siblings who are on a different JFL team?
A: Due to team size and safety, cheerleaders must stay with their designated age-assigned team. We’re no longer able to accommodate sibling cheer placement.
Q: How can I support the program?
A: We welcome sponsors of any amount and appreciate volunteer support during events. See our Sponsor form to learn more. Volunteer opportunities will be posted as they become available during the season.
Q: Is financial assistance available for cheer registration?
A: Yes! AO Youth Cheer offers need-based scholarships each season for one cheerleader in each division (Flag, LW, and HW).
